Poetry Challenge Week 36

Sophistication

You have to be sophisticated,

to know who you call

my lord

and how to charm

your way past the salad fork.

You have to be sophisticated,

they call

through gritted teeth

as wind and sand peel back layers of pretense;

leaving gritty reality

tangled in my hair.
