(Poetry Challenge Week 3)

I am left searching

for the word that fled from the tip of my tongue.

It tastes of blank space

and too long pauses.

The words behind it

grumble and groan,

pressing forward. Impatient for their turn.

While I am left

at the front of the line,

holding up a number and calling out,

"next?"
